NHR’s Regenerative Grid Simulator (9410) is a unique four-quadrant bi-directional AC/DC source that simulates the utility voltage and regenerates power sourced by grid-tied inverters. Greater than 90% of power is returned to the facility thereby providing significant energy savings. The 9410 is used as a grid simulator, or emulator for testing PV inverters and other grid-tied products for compliance to IEEE 1547, UL 1741, and global industry standards. A wide-range of AC conditions can be emulated including phase imbalance (in voltage and/or phase angle relationship), voltage sag, frequency changes and harmonic injection.

Modular and Scalable Power

The Regenerative Grid Simulator (9410) is flexible in both output form and power level. Output can be AC or DC and the AC can be single, split or 3-phase. Frequency is programmable between 30 and 100 Hz. Power is scalable from 4 kW to 96kW. With this broad selection of power, phase configuration and frequency, this grid simulator provides the flexibility to test the widest range of grid-tied products. The included measurement system also eliminates the need for additional power meters, DMMs, oscilloscopes, or spectrum analyzers.

Accurate Emulation of Complex Power Disturbances

The Regenerative Grid Simulator (9410) is able to replicate power line disturbances through a combination of user-definable waveforms and Macros. User-defined waveforms permit generation of non-sinusoidal voltages including asymmetrical inflections, transient anomalies, voltage harmonics, or any other irregularity which can be drawn as a single-cycle. The grid simulator can emulate sub-cycle transients, phase jumps and multi-cycle line conditions as required.

High Voltage Battery Test System 9300 Series Advanced Test Equipment Rentals (ATEC) and NH Research, Inc. (NHR) today announced a rental partnership agreement for NHR’s 9300 Battery Test Systems. NHR is a world-leading manufacturer of power electronics and battery test instruments as well as test systems. ATEC is a worldwide leading rental company of test equipment for military, defense, aerospace, communications, semiconductor, consumer electronics, and many other sectors and able to supply NHR’s high-power battery charge/discharge test systems.

NHR’s 9300 Battery Test System is designed for either characterizing or emulating all battery chemistries including lead-acid, nickel-cadmium, and lithium-ion. This test system is a regenerative, fast-acting, modular, dual-range, bi-directional DC source/load providing up to 100kW per system in either a high-current (600V/333A) or high-voltage (1,200V/167A) range. When more than 100kW is needed, the modular design allows easy expansion up to 1.2MW in 100kW increments making the 9300 ideally suited for energy storage testing used in electric-vehicles (EV) and energy storage systems (ESS).

The 9300 is fully programmable allowing it to act as a fast-acting source (charge), a regenerative dc load (discharge), or a bi-directional voltage source (battery) with any programmed combination of constant power, constant voltage, and constant-current regulation limits. It’s frequently used for battery charge/discharge cycling or emulates a battery for testing chargers as well as other battery related power devices.

Known as the latest in battery turn-key solutions, the 100 kW NHR 9300 is a welcome addition to ATEC’s continuously expanding inventory of power supply and loads test equipment. NEW! 9300 Series High Voltage Battery Test System

A Modular High Voltage Battery Test System & Emulation System for up to 1200 VDC

High Voltage Battery Test System 9300 Series - NH Research, Inc.NH Research, Inc. (NHR) has released the new 9300 series, a higher-voltage / higher-power version of its popular single-channel 9210 series battery test systems. The 9210 Series provided a 12kW power module operating at 40V, 120V, or 600V and which allowed paralleling with similar systems to increase the power, whereas the new 9300 system provides a 100kW power module with a software-selectable high voltage range (1200VDC / 167A) and high-current range (600VDC / 333A) allowing for efficient testing of single-voltage and double-voltage Electric vehicle (EV) batteries as well as high-voltage Energy Storage Systems (ESS) used in grid-tied applications.

The 9300 further extends NHR’s family of high-power battery test and emulation capabilities which are ideal for analyzing a battery performance under xEV drive cycles and grid-storage profiles such as PJM and time-shifting profiles. Like the successful 9200 and 9210 systems, the 9300 modules are independent allowing for testing of multiple batteries, each with a different test plan, power levels and start/stop times. When higher power is needed, the 9300 modules may be paralleled providing 200kW, 300kW or up to 1.2MW capability. This modular power capability allows a system to be sized to the power levels needed today while ensuring expansion capability should additional power be needed in the future.

The standard 9300 system is outfitted with an internal controller, system software and advanced touch panel for manual control. Through this interface the operator is able to create, run, monitor, chart and report UUT profiles without writing a single line of code. Alternatively, for complex test programs and for tests that require additional data acquisition hardware, users can employ either NH Research’s Enerchron® test sequencer software, or their own custom LabVIEW or Python application using the supplied fully-documented drivers.

The system is highly efficient and regenerative returning more than 90 percent of the energy removed from a battery is returned as usable AC facility power. Regeneration lowers the total utility consumption of the facility, reduces the amount of generated waste-heat, provides a cooler work environment, reduces air conditioning loads and eliminates the need for elaborate water-cooling systems. The operating cost savings from using regeneration typically provides a return on investment within 1-2 years.
