NHR Presents at Intersolar 2020: Managing the Impacts of Electrification on the Grid

Power Lines Field

NH Research Inc., (NHR) a leading provider of power testing instruments and systems for the automotive, renewable energy, energy storage, and critical-power markets, will be presenting at Intersolar North America 2020.

Martin Weiss, Product Director at NH Research, will present in a talk entitled, “Bi-directional Test Solutions to Manage the Impacts of Electrification on the Grid”. In this session, he’ll share test solutions used by the industry to evaluate electric loading profiles and use cases for EVs, micro-grid, V2G and energy storage applications. This presentation will also review key factors in selecting the right test solution and industry use cases.

NHR Presentation Track: Managing the Electricity Load on the Grid: The Role & Impact of Vehicle Charging
Event: Intersolar North America, 2020
Dates: Feb 4th from 3pm to 4:15pm
Location: San Diego Convention Center, Room 9

Presentation Description:

Bi-directional Test Solutions to Manage the Impacts of Electrification on the Grid

EV DC Fast Charging deployments are accelerating. The ability to simulate these loading profiles is critical for: validating sophisticated load management systems and assessing the impact on the grid. Regenerative bi-directional sources, grid simulators and battery emulators are the engineer’s tool for testing new power management systems, solar (PV), energy storage systems, EVs and DC fast chargers. These bi-directional capabilities are especially ideal for utility companies to test and understand the impacts of e-mobility and grid-tied devices (DG and V2G) on the grid. Simulating the bidirectional power flows to and from the grid substantially speeds up testing time and reduces energy costs.

Key Presentation Takeaways:

• Identify power test approaches for strategic load management & utility grid testing
• Learn about next gen technologies for simulating real-world conditions & load profiles
• Industry use cases

NHR’s flexible test solutions include: 9200 & 9300 bi-directional DC power, 9410 regenerative grid simulator, 9410 AC Source and 9430 4-Quadrant AC loads.

Lockheed Martin Selects NH Research Test Solution for eCASS Program

NH Research Model 4300 modular DC load solution to support U.S. Navy test systems

NHR eCass Program - NH Research (NHR)

“NH Research Inc. (NHR), a leading provider of power electronics test systems and instruments for the aerospace, defense, automotive, and energy industries, announces Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems has selected NHR’s Model 4300 modular DC load solution for the electronic Consolidated Automated Support System (eCASS) program test systems to support the U.S. Navy.

NHR’s 4300 modular DC electronic load subsystem has become a popular choice for aerospace and defense automated test equipment (ATE) systems where space, performance, and reliability are important. The 4300 platform provides six different load sizes and a digital power analyzer in a small footprint and can eliminate the need for additional relays and other test measurement devices.

“NH Research has been working with Lockheed Martin on the original CASS program and now the eCASS for over 30 years,” said Peter O’Brien, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at NH Research. “NH Research’s proven 4300 platform, combined with our automated test systems experience, enables us to provide Lockheed Martin with reliable and cost effective solutions.”

“The 4300 platform from NH Research provides us with the performance, reliability, and long-term support we need for the eCASS Program.” said Ed Melville, Automated Test Systems Portfolio Manager at Lockheed Martin. “We look forward to working together in the future.”

NEW! Modular 120V DC Load – 4312 Series, from NH Research, Inc.

A Digitizing DC Load with Built-In Measurements that Eliminates the Need for Seperate External Devices

removable modular dc load model 4350NH Research, Inc. (NHR) has launched its new 4312 Series 120V Modular DC Load that expands the 4300 family of modular power supply testing instruments. The new multi-range DC load provides the precision loading as well as output measurements for characterizing USB (5V), LPS (20V), and virtually any external AC-DC power supply. The modular, front-loading 4300 chassis supports any combination of 4312 Series DC loads as well as the existing 4350 Series 500V DC loads and 4301 AC/DC Power Analyzers in a single 16-slot 8 ¾” (5U) chassis. All of the 4300 instruments use the same driver installation resulting in the most compact, fully integrated test and measurement system available today.

NHR’s 4300 chassis supports the 4312 Series of 120V DC Loads, the 4350 Series of 500V DC Loads, and the 4301 AC/DC Power Analyzer. Each instrument embeds a 1 mega-sample/second digitizer, multiple measurement ranges, and additional support features commonly found in comprehensive power supply test systems. In fact, NHR offers a comprehensive test system based on the 4300 family of instruments called the S600 Series. NHR’s S600 test system consists of a 4300 chassis, any combination of DC loads & power analyzers, a programmable AC/DC power supply, and a controller pre-loaded with NHR’s emPower® test sequencing software.

As a standalone instrument or as the core of a complete test system, the 4300 instruments provide the loading flexibility & the measurement options needed to optimize and accelerate power supply testing.
