All of NHR’s DC electronic loads provide ultra-fast transient simulations and comprehensive measurements to accurately test real-world conditions. The 4700 DC Load (120V) is well-suited for low voltage and high current applications whereas the 4670 DC Load (600V) is ideal for high power applications. The 4300 Series DC Loads are ideal for lower power, multi-channel testing and 9300/9200 NHR’s Regenerative DC Loads offer increased energy savings and additional bi-directional capability.

4700/4760 Benchtop DC Loads

In this article, we’ll share details specifically on the benefits of the 4700/4760 benchtop DC loads. This series can be used as part of an automatic test station or as a stand-alone, bench-top set-up. Our modular, flexible test equipment has the accuracy, reliability, and speed required for applications such as DC converters, avionics, fuel cells and batteries, EV components, radar testing, power supplies and much more.

With a large user-friendly interface, test engineers can easily use this equipment for engineering characterization and test program development. It can be operated manually through the touch-panel, or automated. Automated testing may be PC-controlled either through NH Research’s emPower™ test executive or user-written test programs in LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI or in any programming language which supports IVI Drivers.

Create Complex, Fast-Transient Load Profiles

NHR’s DC Electronic Loads (4700/4760) are capable of creating a wide variety of complex dynamic load profiles. Types of profiles include micro-second pulses, multiple pulses of varying width, stepped responses, variable slew rates and even simulating an AC component on the DC waveform.

The key to this capability is called a Macro, each of which contains up to 100 steps and is executed directly by the load to achieve the fastest possible transition speed. Once created, Macros can be stored in the system controller for downloading to the load when execution is required.

Scalable Power, Wide Operating Envelope

Easily add power modules scale power and meet new testing demands over time. For added flexibility, NHR’s dc electronic loads also have a wide operating envelope to provide rated power anywhere between 5V and 120V. Below 5V the load maintains full current capability down to 1V and then linearly reduced current down to 0.15V.

NHR’s 4300 DC Electronic Loads are used across a variety of industries. This modular, flexible test equipment has the accuracy, reliability, and form factor required by automated test equipment (ATE), military and aerospace applications. NHR’s DC Loads: Key Capabilities

This flexible load measurement system can be reconfigured easily to test products in parallel which better simulates real-world conditions and improves testing time. The capability to combine up to 16 loads into a single chassis, with fast transient speed and synchronous measurement, opens several new test strategy possibilities. There are 25 different combinations of DC electronic loads that can be configured using the 150 W, 300W and 600W options (Fig.1). NHR’s 4312 and 4350 DC Electronic Loads offer the maximum configuration flexibility depending on your changing test requirements.

Another major advantage is the built-in data sheet digital power analyzer model 4301 that provides accurate UUT input measurements dedicated to each tester channel. This advanced digital measurement system is capable of measuring devices in a few seconds. The analyzer includes a power meter, multi-meter, and oscilloscope that together provides a powerful test solution.

This distributed measurement capability allows measures each output from a multi-output power conversion device simultaneously rather than sequentially. Not only does this dramatically reduce the overall test time but also provides far better channel-to-channel performance measurements including dynamic cross effects. This flexible DC electronic load and measurement system allows you to reconfigure the loading arrangement as required by future test needs.

NHR’s 4300 modular DC electronic load subsystem has become a popular choice for aerospace and defense automated test equipment (ATE) systems where space, performance, and reliability are important.
