Power Test Equipment for Electric Aircraft, E-VTOL, Drones
NH Research (NHR) provides power test equipment for electric aircraft components and systems including battery modules/packs, electric propulsion and electronic systems. Our customers include commercial, military aircraft and private manufacturers and suppliers across hybrid and fully electric aircraft, e-VTOL, drones, and urban air mobility (UAM) platforms. NHR’s test solutions include battery test systems, battery emulators, AC/DC loads and sources, and test system software.
Electric flight raises unique and unprecedented challenges that engineers must address. A major limitation for electric-powered planes is the weight and capacity of the battery. Electric planes will require lighter weight batteries with more energy density to make electric flight feasible. Similar to electric vehicles, higher voltages permit faster charging and increase power transfer while reducing vehicle weight. These factors are driving development for higher performing and higher power electric aircraft systems including batteries, electric motors, power distribution units (PDUs), power converters/inverters and chargers.

Battery Test Equipment
NHR’s battery test systems are regenerative, bi-directional DC sources. The 9300 High Voltage Battery Test System has a dual power range that covers both lower (up to 600 V) and higher power (up to 1200 V) applications using a single product. This modular system can be scaled up to 2.4 MW in 100 kW building blocks. The 9200 Series Battery Test System has voltages of 40, 120 or 600V, capable of charge/discharge and cycle testing of 10 – 250kW module and pack-level batteries.These highly flexible systems can be integrated into an existing software environment, run from a PC with NHR’s Enerchron® Test Software or locally through a touch-panel.
The High-Current DC Electronic Load (120V) 4700 Series and High-Voltage DC Electronic Load (600V) 4760 Series air-cooled dc loads can be used in applications where discharge only is needed. These loads can be controlled either through LabVIEW or NHR’s Enerchron® Test Manager.
NHR’s electric propulsion test solutions provide a bi-directional approach with the speed and accuracy to emulate real world conditions. NHR’s 9300/9200 battery emulators can be used to emulate a high voltage battery and the DC Buss, ideal for electric propulsion testing.Key features include:

Power Electronics & PDUs
NHR offers AC-DC, DC-DC products for testing aircraft electrical systems including auxiliary loads, switches, electric actuators and power distribution units (PDU). NHR’s DC loads are ideal for multi-channel load testing while NHR’s 9300/9200 bi-directional DC source can be used to emulate the PDU power source. NHR provides safe and accurate solutions for testing power distribution units which route multiple high power sources and loads throughout the aircraft. Key features include:
