NEW! Model 9420 AC Power Source with HiVAR Technology

NH Research, Inc. is Redefining how AC Power Source Products are Selected

AC Power Source Model 9420 - NH Research, Inc.NH Research, Inc. continues its technology leadership in test & measurement by introducing the 9420 AC Power Source with HiVARTM Technology. The source is compact, modular and field expandable which is ideal for designing into automated test equipment (ATE) systems. An advanced built-in measurement system further simplifies ATE system design by providing the essential functions of a digital multi-meter, current transducer, power analyzer, and oscilloscope. This combination of HiVAR technology, expandable power and built-in measurements make the 9420 an ideal AC source by providing the power and measurement needed for ATE systems as well those commonly needed in general laboratory use.

HiVAR technology extends the usable true power (kW) and eliminates the VA de-rating penalty when reactive power is present. It accomplishes this by providing continuous operation up to the maximum voltage, current and true power (kW). Systems with HiVAR break the VA-only rating tradition in two ways: First, the source is able to transition between high voltage and high current regions along the true power curve without requiring either a range change or requiring the output to be switched off to change ranges. In addition to seamless transitions, continuous true power operation actually extends the usable true power especially when compared with fixed high-voltage / high-current range sources. Second and often overlooked, reactive power (VARS) increases the apparent power (VA) required in test. In the case of VA-only rated systems, this same reactive power negates a portion of a power rating resulting in a lower true power capability thereby requiring a larger source to be initially specified. HiVAR technology extends the apparent power capability, eliminates the VA de-rating penalty and provides a more intuitive selection of AC power sources.

The advanced built-in measurement system is based on a 125kSample/sec digitizer which is able to take advantage of separate voltage and current ranges, further improving measurement accuracy. These range selections are independent allowing any combination of high & low ranges to be selected for voltage and current, occur seamlessly and do not require the output to be turned off. The Model 9420 additionally includes a low current measurement range making it possible to measure standby and low-power operating modes. For more detailed analysis, the high-resolution waveform is available for download and further analysis making any conceivable power measurement possible.

NH Research, Inc. Releases 9210 Series Single Channel Battery Charge/Discharge Test System

A Single Channel Battery Test System with Smaller Footprint Allowing For Better Optimization of Laboratory Space

single channel battery charge discharge test system 9210NH Research, Inc. has released the 9210 series, a single channel version of its popular multi-channel 9200 series high–power battery charge discharge test systems. The 9200 series can house up to 3 channels (power modules) in its cabinet, whereas the new single channel 9210 system is a smaller footprint allowing better optimization of laboratory and/or manufacturing space.

The 9210 further extends its 9200 family of high-power battery charge/discharge test systems, which are especially suitable for xEV electric vehicle and grid storage battery cycling as well as drive-cyclesimulations and grid-energy simulations. Like the successful 9200 systems, the new single module test battery system (9210) utilizes any of the 40V, 120V, or 600V modular, independent 12-kilowatt DC power modules which enable testing of a number of smaller batteries, each with a different test plan, power level and start/stop times. The smaller footprint makes it easier to move within a laboratory and/or manufacturing, allowing the tester to be brought to the engineer’s workspace.

The new 9210 cabinet has an internal controller, software, and connections for an external monitor and keyboard. Through this interface, the operator is able to create, run, monitor, chart and report UUT (unit under test) profiles without writing any code.

Alternatively, for complex test programs and for tests that require additional data acquisition hardware, users can employ either NH Research’s Enerchron® test sequencer software, or their own custom LabVIEW or Python application using the supplied drivers. For cost-efficiency, up to 90 percent of the energy removed from a battery is returned as usable AC power. This process, called regeneration, lowers the total utility consumption of the facility and reduces the amount of generated waste-heat. Further advantages of regeneration include a much cooler work environment, reduced air conditioning loads, and the elimination of elaborate water-cooling systems. The 9200 and 9210 series testers simulate real-world conditions with fast voltage, current and mode transition times; include a digital measurement system with high-resolution waveform capture and a digital chart recorder; provide custom waveform/profile generation; and have multiple battery-protection safety features.
